As the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) accelerates across the UK, choosing the right home charging solution is becoming a key decision for homeowners. Among the leading options available, the Hypervolt EV charger stands out for its combination of intelligent software, robust engineering, and user-focused design.
Having carried out EV charger installation across much of SE London & Kent including Bexleyheath, Bromley, Eltham, Maidstone & Rochester, we have prepared this guide which aims to explain everything you need to know about Hypervolt chargers, including how they work, their technical features, and what to expect from installation.
What Is a Hypervolt EV Charger?
The Hypervolt home pro 3 is a UK-designed smart home EV charger that delivers fast, efficient charging while offering advanced connectivity features. It is a 7kW wall-mounted charger, featuring a sleek design & is primarily designed for residential properties with a standard single-phase electricity supply.
Unlike basic chargers, Hypervolt units are “smart chargers,” meaning they connect to your home Wi-Fi and allow full control via a mobile app with integration with certain energy providers too.
Key Technical Features of Hypervolt Chargers
1. Charging Power & Performance
Hypervolt chargers provide up to 7.4kW charging speed, which is ideal for overnight home charging. Depending on your vehicle, this can add approximately 25–30 miles of range per hour.
This makes it suitable for:
2. Smart App Integration
One of Hypervolt’s standout features is its intuitive mobile app, which allows you to:
This level of control helps homeowners in Kent and surrounding areas reduce energy bills and optimise efficiency.
3. Solar Integration Capability
Hypervolt chargers can integrate with solar PV systems, allowing you to charge your EV using surplus solar energy.
Benefits include:
This is particularly useful for homeowners in SE London & Kent where solar adoption is increasing.
4. Built-in Safety Features
Safety is a critical aspect of EV charging, and Hypervolt includes:
What type of EV charger should I install at home?
We only install trusted, smart chargers - fully compliant with UK regulations and packed with modern features like: Load management, Scheduled charging & energy tracking, all within a smart app on your phone.
7kW Single-Phase Chargers
Perfect for most homes.
Charge time: 6-12 hours (ideal for overnight charging)
22kW Three-Phase Chargers
For properties & business premises with three-phase power.
Charge time: Fast charging times of between 1–3 hours depending on your vehicle
13-Amp Plug-In Chargers
These are not recommended for everyday use. These take between 12–24+ hours to fully charge and can overload standard socket outlets in your home. We’d advise on using these only in an Emergency with no alternatives available.
How long does it take to install an EV charger?
A standard home installation typically takes 3 to 5 hours inclusive of installation & commissioning. More complex installations - such as longer cable runs or consumer unit upgrades - may take longer.
As with every installation we carry out, attention to detail, cleanliness, and pride in our work are top priorities - ensuring you receive a seamless and hassle-free EV charger installation.
How much does it cost to install an EV charger?
Installation costs will vary based on factors such as cable length, which particular EV Charger is being installed, Installation location & where your existing consumer unit is suitable for the addition of your new EV charger. All of our quotes include full installation & certification as standard.
Will I need a pre-installation survey?
In short, yes.
We prefer transparency upfront and a survey allows us to discuss options with you & check things like the cable route, your consumer unit capacity, main fuse rating, Wi-Fi signal strength, and any potential obstructions which then allows us to provide you with a fixed quote. This prevents anydelays and unexpected costs at Installation stage.
What Qualifications do we have to Install EV Chargers?
We’ve now completed the specialist EV charging course twice, ensuring we stay fully up to date with the latest standards and best practices.
Our lead engineer is an Approved Electrician in the UK, a Qualified Supervisor with the NICEIC, and holds formal qualifications in electrical testing and inspection. With over 20 years of hands-on installation experience—including numerous successful local EV charger installations—you can be confident in the quality of our work.
Selkent Electrical Ltd is NICEIC-registered, giving you peace of mind that all our installations, testing procedures, and safety practices are independently assessed and verified annually.
Is Wi-Fi strength important for my EV charger?
Many smart chargers rely on a stable Wi-Fi connection to access scheduled charging, off-peak energy tariffs, and software updates.
If the Wi-Fi signal is weak where the charger will be installed, you might need a signal booster or a wired connection, both of which we can take of for you.
Will I need to upgrade my electricity supply?
In most cases, no. A 7kW charger usually works with standard UK domestic supplies. However, we will assess your current setup and liaise with your Distribution Network Operator (DNO) if an upgrade or notification is required. If found to be required then we can reduce the loading of your charger internally to allow for installation to take place.
What energy tariff should I be on for charging an EV?
Some electricity suppliers offer EV-friendly or off-peak tariffs, which provide cheaper rates during set nighttime hours. Pairing one of these tariffs with a smart charger can significantly reduce your charging costs. Check with your supplier or use a comparison site to find the best EV tariff for your usage.
What happens if I change my electric vehicle later on?
Most home chargers use a universal Type 2 connector, which works with the majority of EVs sold in the UK. If you have an untethered charger, you just change the cable to match your new car if needed.
