We were approached by clients who had recently purchased a three-bedroom semi-detached home in Eltham, SE9 who were seeking a complete electrical rewire as part of an planned renovation project which they were undertaking themselves.

Job duration:

  • This particular house rewire took us 5 days to complete with return visits over a period of time to complete further work alongside further refurbishment work taking place (and still ongoing)

Scope of Works:

  • Supply & installation of a new consumer unit equipped with a surge protection device and modern RCBO protection with cables contained within PVC trunking within cupboard area
  • Full rewire of all circuits in main part of the house and cabling installed to kitchen are for future work to be carried out within the property
  • Installing SWA sub-main cabling to supply a separate workshop at the back of the garden
  • Installation of multiple cables to front garden for power to an electric bike shed, general use double socket outlet & Electric Vehicle Charger for future use

Initial Contact & Consultation:

Our process began with an initial consultation to understand the client’s vision and requirements. We then prepared our proposal which was subsequently approved with the work commencing within 7 days from initial contact.

The initial house rewire was completed within 5 days, the workshop installation then took place once it was built and we completed that within 1 day.

Since the completion of the rewire we have been back on numerous occasions to carry out further additions for our customer as further refurbishment work has been carried out with a new kitchen renovation planned for later this year/early next year.

Main house:

In the main house, which consisted of 3 bedrooms, 2 reception areas & a bathroom, we broke the circuits down in to sections of the house to once again, allow maximum convenience for our customer should they ever need to isolate parts of the installation, this is becoming particularly important in the design process due to the evolution of people working from home in a lot of cases.

Fixtures installed:

  • Multi way switching to allow them to control their hallway lights from multiple points of entry and exit to hallway and landing area
  • Emergency light fitting in consumer unit cupboard providing 3 hour battery backup lighting in the event of a loss of power
  • Decorative lighting including wall lighting points in the dining area (& later on in the living room area)
  • USB & standard sockets in convenient locations in bedrooms, kitchen and living areas
  • External lighting outside the front of the house
  • Mains equipotential bonding to incoming metallic gas and water pipes as required by the electrical regulation set out in BS7671

Workshop Area:

The workshop installation consisted of a steel wire armoured (SWA) cable installed from the house consumer unit to supply a secondary consumer unit sited in the workshop.

Within the workshop itself, we installed PVC trunking and conduit to route circuits for a more robust, durable installation due to the presence of heavy tools and machinery, it also allows for easier adaptation in the future should the workshop layout change and evolve.

Fixtures installed:

  • A secondary consumer unit, again with RCBO protection for all outgoing circuits to ensure compliance to BS7671 alongside protection for users of the installation
  • PVC trunking high level to route cables around the perimeter of the room with PVC conduit installed to accessory locations
  • Metal clad sockets and switches
  • LED batten light fittings to provide adequate lighting within the works areas

Completion & Compliance Certification

Upon completion, we conducted full electrical testing and issued the necessary Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) and Part P Building Control compliance documentation, as required by BS7671 regulations.

Notably (& similarly to our 1st case study) Our annual NICEIC inspection took place at this project. An independent assessor reviewed both our installation and certification processes, ensuring our work meets the high standards we consistently deliver to all our clients.

Client Feedback

We were delighted to have the client also leave us a glowing, 5 star review upon completion of the project. It always means a lot to us to know that our care, attention and hard work is appreciated.
